This Week’s Episode: South Side Restaurants
Hello there!
Tonight, for the last episode of the 14th season (!), we take you on a tour of some of our city’s South Side gems. The South Side is so rich in Chicago history and there are some fantastic meals to be enjoyed. In fact, in the past couple of years, the restaurant scene has exploded as South Side chefs open additional restaurants and North Side chefs realize what they have been missing. In tonight’s show, we’ll travel to Garifuna Flava, Calumet Fisheries, Zalesky & Horvath, Vito & Nick's Pizzeria, Chicago’s Home of Chicken & Waffles, Acadia, Soul Vegetarian East, Han 202, and Tio Luis Tacos.
Chicago’s Home of Chicken & Waffles
My mother is a South-sider and my father a North-sider, so I grew up never realizing that many people have a strong allegiance to one side of the city versus the other. I spent time on both sides of Chicago visiting both sides of the family. As a child I went to both Cubs and Sox games pretty regularly. It wasn’t until late in high school that I was aware that a rivalry even existed! A friend (and die hard Sox fan) asked whether I root for the Cubs or Sox. I replied that I root for both. And he passionately explained to me that it was impossible to root for both…that’s why I am now a Yankees fan (just kidding)! It was at that moment that I learned that my father was not only a doctor, but also a diplomat. He knew better than to poke fun at his father-in-law’s beloved baseball team! So, to this day, I have equal love for both sides of the city. And luckily, so does Check, Please!

Join me tonight – whether you hail from the North or South Side. This episode is sure to get everyone to agree on one thing…we need to head south for some dinner!
Stay warm and I’ll see you tonight!
Cheers,
