Meaty Father’s Day Eats

Menus are getting meaty for Father’s Day on June 15. Because what better way to celebrate dad than with some bison carpaccio, some rib-eye, and some roasted duck breast? Here are some of the top bets for meaty meals in Chicago this holiday weekend.

Get the holiday started with a Father’s Day Eve dinner at South Water Kitchen on June 14. The four-course affair is absolutely loaded with meat and infused with beer from beginning to end, starting with black pepper-seared bison carpaccio and progressing through Buffalo-style quail, beer battered whitefish, and grilled pork loin. For dessert, it’s stout doughnut holes with bacon jam filling. Each course is paired with a craft beer to boot.

Over at Bistronomic, head chef Jerome Bacle keeps things just as meaty with his three-course dinner degustations. For Father’s Day, the chef is going carnivorous with items such as steak tartare, bacon-flecked gazpacho, foie gras, roasted duck breast, and braised rabbit leg gnocchi. Diners select one dish per course, or they can order a la carte. To drink, there’s beer aplenty.

Surf and turf reigns supreme at Shaw’s Crab House, making it a surefire hit for hungry dads. The special Father’s Day brunch buffet features everything from omelets and waffles to lobster bisque, hand-carved beef tenderloin, oysters, shrimp, and loads more. And don’t forget the dessert table lined with key lime pie, mini cupcakes, raspberry tartlets, and other indulgences. All dads will also receive a gift card to Shaw’s.

Meat-filled feasting takes an elegant turn at Tortoise Club. The River North restaurant will be serving its new spring menu and a handful of specials, all ideal for wowing dads. Dishes include grilled shrimp and guacamole, steaks, BBQ Berkshire pork chops, wild Alaskan halibut, and more. Feeling extravagant? Order the special Miyazaki Wagyu steak with truffle potato puree or the surf & turf combo of center-cut rib-eye with king crab legs.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a more apropos dining destination on Father’s Day than Michael Jordan’s Steak House. Especially when steaks and engraved knives are involved. The first 23 dads to order the restaurant’s Prime Delmonico steak will earn a free engraved steak knife. Additionally, chef James O’Donnell will be cooking up filet mignon medallions topped with chicken fried lobster tail.

To preempt the Brooklyn Brewery beer dinner taking place June 17, Coppervine is offering another opportunity for dads to partake in a particularly savorous beer-themed meal. Before hosting the beer dinner on Tuesday, Coppervine will be offering its special tasting menu on Father’s Day as well. The beer-paired meal features items such as panzanella served with bacon and Burrata; Australian tiger prawns; porchetta with ramp kimchi; and a bourbon ice cream float.

For those who don’t have kids, Municipal Bar + Dining Co. is showing some love with their “Not a Father’s Day” event, featuring food and drink specials for grown men who haven’t procreated. This includes shots, wings, and fun bar games.
