Lots of new additions are afoot at one of the country’s most famed cocktail bars, as The Violet Hour rolls out an absinthe happy hour and a new line of retail cocktail bases.

First, the bar has revived the tradition of “L’heure Verte,” aka the Green Hour, a special commemoration of absinthe and the distilleries that produce the spirit. Monday through Thursday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, The Violet Hour honors absinthe with a new absinthe happy hour, complete with the full traditional paraphernalia and accoutrements used in absinthe lore, including the iconic absinthe drip. Selections of absinthe will rotate monthly, featured in special absinthe cocktails like an absinthe frappe and The Libertine, outfitted with Pernod, lemon, gin, and sparkling wine.

In other Violet Hour news, the bar has launched The Violet Hour +, a new line of cocktail bases for home bar carts. The inaugural item in this new venture is Batch #1, which contains scorched Demerara, Tahitian vanilla, wormwood-bittered cane sugar, and gentian herbs. It’s ideal for mixing into spirits or non-alcoholic beverages, available at The Violet Hour and coming soon to Publican Quality Meats. Future flavors for The Violet Hour + include a house tonic made with lemongrass, quinine, and lime; and aqua de flor with hibiscus flower, vanilla bean, and fresh ginger.
