The Salon Series Pairs Art and Food
Food and art converge at The Salon Series – recurring, roving events inspired by 17th century gatherings and the intellectual exchange of post-war Paris. Artists and chefs attend, there’s incisive conversation, and everyone makes new friends. There are two salons this month with food from great Chicago restaurants, so pick which one most interests you, and get ready for a delicious, artful evening.
First up on April 12 is a salon featuring artist Claire Ashley, who makes colorful, inflatable paintings that fill rooms and evoke ideas about graffiti, architecture, and motherhood. For the event, she has made an inflatable and a series of small, stuffed multiples. Discuss her art over dinner from Fat Rice, a new Macanese restaurant in Logan Square, and beer pairings from Chicago-based brewery Five Rabbit. The event will be held from 7-10 pm at The Salon Series Projects, 1319 W. Wilson in Chicago.
Then on April 19, Fraser Taylor will discuss his show, “Solids+Lines,” which is on view at Room 406. The show surveys a decade of his work in the Midwest and is anchored by the impact that drawing has on his art. Nosh on bites from Bridgeport restaurant Pleasant House Bakery – the menu includes chicken balti pies with chutney, mini mushroom and kale pies, stuffed mushrooms, and Scotch eggs, along with beers from Five Rabbit – while taking part in the discussion moderated by Salon Series founder JC Steinbrunner. The event will be held at Room 406, 406 N. Oakley in Chicago from 7-9 pm.
