From chili festivals to doughnut fests, every food has its day. This most definitely includes ramen, which is gearing up to once again take the spotlight as the second annual Ramenfest takes place November 7. It all goes down at urbanbelly, at apt locale considering the Asian restaurant was one of the first in Chicago to legitimize the dish and catapult it into popularity.

Hosted by chef Bill Kim, this year’s Ramenfest features 20 chefs cooking up their own versions of ramen at urbanbelly, each vying for ramen glory as deemed by a panel of judges and the public. There will also be drinks on deck and a portion of proceeds benefit Common Threads.

The lineup for Ramenfest features an eclectic miscellany of Chicago’s culinary landscape, proving that any crafty chef from any cuisine can try his or her hand at ramen. The roster includes Barry Sorkin of Smoque BBQ, Sarah Grueneberg of forthcoming Monteverde, Shin Thompson of Furious Spoon, Jimmy Bannos of The Purple Pig, Brian Huston of Boltwood, Giuseppe Tentori of GT Fish & Oyster, Erling Wu-Bower of Nico Osteria, Kevin Hickey of The Duck Inn, Matthias Merges of Yusho, Ryan McCaskey of Acadia, Craig Couper of Michael Jordan’s Steak House, and more.
