Meez Meals Partners With Common Threads for Meals for Good
One surefire way to keep those New Year’s resolutions intact is by putting yourselves in the dutiful hands of talented chefs, especially the ones lined up to provide nutrition-focused recipes as part of Meals for Good, a new year-long initiative curated by Meez Meals and Common Threads. This new wholesome endeavor was the brainchild of Meez Meals’ founder Jen Moore, who approached Common Threads with the idea to expand their bandwidth on providing healthy meals to those aspiring to eat better.
Moore founded Meez Meals in 2010 as a home delivery ready-to-cook meal service with a concentration on nutrition, striving to bring healthy food to families aiming to eat better. The mission of Meez Meals dovetailed perfectly with that of Common Threads, an organization that works to connect people with food and nutrition via after-school programs. Moore describes the harmonious collaboration as a natural evolution for Meez Meals, and Common Threads’ CEO and co-founder Linda Novick O’Keefe echoes Moore’s philosophy that building a sense of family around the dinner table is of vital importance. Together, Meez Meals and Common Threads created the year-long Meals for Good campaign. The concept represented a unique opportunity to give the Meez Meals concept a chef-y touch, delivering recipes from different Chicago chefs each month along with ready-to-cook ingredients. “There’s something really magical about sitting down to dinner together,” says Moore, a mother herself who has long sought to deliver a healthy cooking-at-home concept to busy families. The fact that these chef-inspired recipes also happen to be healthy makes it a win-win, so customers can acquire a high-quality meal without throwing their dietary integrity out the window. Rest assured, though, that these are not intimidating restaurant-caliber recipes, but rather dishes chefs might create on their off time, making them perfect for the home cook. Says Moore, “When you have the glimmer of what a chef makes off duty, it’s exciting.”
Meals for Good launched late last year with a recipe for shaved Brussels sprouts salad with balsamic-glazed tofu from Common Threads’ co-founder and owner of Table 52, Art Smith. Each purchase of a Meals for Good recipe supports Common Threads’ after-school programs, helping children and adults gauge a better sense of nutrition and get more hands-on with healthy eating. The current recipe available to order comes courtesy of David Blonsky of Siena Tavern, Public House, and Bull & Bear, a Roman rapini pasta bowl outfitted with vegetable stock, toasted walnuts, and shaved Parmesan. Still to come this year are recipes from Heather Terhune of Sable Kitchen & Bar, Rick Gresh of David Burke’s Primehouse, and more.
