One of the most hotly anticipated openings of the year is finally upon us, as acclaimed restaurateur Danny Meyer and the folks behind The Best Bar in the World launch GreenRiver in Streeterville. From its unique position 18 stories up to its Irish flavor, there are a lot of unique elements about this bold new dining and drinking destination.

GreenRiver comes by way of some of the most prolific restaurateurs and bar professionals in New York City. Meyer commands an empire with his Union Square Hospitality Group, which encompasses Gramercy Tavern, The Modern, Untitled, Porchlight, and Shake Shack. The Best Bar in the World, meanwhile, is run by beverage professionals Sean Muldoon and Jack McGarry, who operate such revered establishments as The Dead Rabbit. Altogether, they’ve compiled their expertise for a wholly unique dining experience in Chicago, situated on the 18th floor of a Streeterville tower.

The restaurant is an Irish dining and drinking establishment, outfitted with an outdoor terrace overlooking Lake Michigan and the downtown skyline. Aaron Lirette heads up the Irish-accented food program, featuring a modern Midwestern menu that serves as an ode to Chicago’s meat-centric past and present, as well as the city’s modern proclivity for gastronomy. Local farms provide the ingredients and inspiration for Lirette’s menu, divvied into shareable snack plates and entrees. The drink program, curated by Muldoon and McGarry and presided over by Julia Momose, is categorized by raw materials used to make spirits, including rye, corn, barley, agave, wheat and oat, sugarcane and molasses, grape and apple, and juniper. Each section contains cocktails named after famous Irish-American Chicagoans.
