Cheers to Chips
Few things are more cheers-worthy than chips, especially when said chips have been satisfying diners for almost 100 years. The housemade potato chips at Lawry’s The Prime Rib are as seasoned as the McCormick Mansion in which the storied restaurant resides, and along with adjacent sister restaurant SideDoor, the two are celebrating history with some fried spuds.
The “Cheers to Chips” program is taking place now through September 30, wherein executive chef Vic Newgren will be doling out 2.5-ounce to-go bags of potato chips to weekday dine-in lunch guests at SideDoor. The fried Kennebec potatoes seasoned with Lawry’s Seasoned Salt date back to 1915, making them one of the most classic comfort foods in Chicago bar none. It all started when Lawry’s founder Lawrence L. Frank began selling chips out of Van de Kamp’s Saratoga Chips in Los Angeles with his brother-in-law Theodore J. Van de Kamp. This was the first of many ventures to follow, including Van de Kamp’s Bakeries, Lawry’s Foods, Lawry’s The Prime Rib, and SideDoor.
