A Taste of Seattle in Chicago

Shaw’s Crab House

The 30-year anniversary of Shaw’s Crab House continues, and this time the longstanding River North standby has called in some help from one of Seattle’s finest. Restaurateur and author Renee Erickson is coming to town for a special event on April 2, featuring the aid of local chefs Giuseppe Tentori and Cosmo Goss.

Erickson is a nautical mastermind of a chef, making her the perfect match for a special event at Shaw’s Crab House. Her impressive repertoire in Seattle includes The Walrus and the Carpenter, The Whale Wins, and Barnacle, as well as Boat Street Pickles and catering outlets Narwhal and General Porpoise. In honor of her new cookbook, A Boat, A Whale & A Walrus, she’s touring the country and stopping in Chicago for a special dinner event featuring dishes from her book. It’s all hands on deck for the occasion, and to help Erickson execute the dinner, Giuseppe Tentori of GT Fish & Oyster and Cosmo Goss of The Publican will be in attendance.

The dinner takes place in the Rowe Room at Shaw’s. The menu includes anchovy tartine with ikura, butter, and horseradish on grilled bread; Boat Street chicken liver pâté with pickled shallot; roasted carrots and fennel with yogurt and harissa prepared with monkfish; butter lettuce salad with tarragon, pistachios, and herbs; halibut with morel mushrooms and snail butter; and creme fraiche ice cream with shaved rhubarb and cookies.
