Snow Cones and Popsicles
Warmer temperatures increase appetites for cooling and quenching treats. Aside from the regular roster of ice cream and gelato, there are snow cones and popsicles to be had all over town this season.
New to the backyard cocktail program at Sportsman’s Club this year is a duo of “sporting snow cones.” These include the Sporting Julep Cone made with bourbon, Branca Menta, Letherbee Besk, and mint.
Chicago’s newest al fresco player is Expat, a patio-exclusive concept from Element Collective (Old Town Social, RM Champagne Salon, Owen + Alchemy). To round out the menu of raw dishes like crudos and ceviches, the drink list contains some unexpected additions like rosé wine snow cones and limoncello snow cones. Guests can also keep things fruity by ordering fresh chunks of watermelon soaked in rosé.
Down the street from Expat, CH Distillery is another one serving up limoncello snow cones, an ideal refresher for imbibing on the bar’s sidewalk patio.
Cocktails on a stick can be found at Kensington Rooftop, one of Chicago’s destinations for al fresco lounging. These adult popsicles are available in two flavors: pina colada with white rum, fresh pineapple, lime, and coconut; and melon margarita with tequila, fresh honeydew, cucumber, and lime.
THE dec ROOFTOP LOUNGE + BAR is cooling down their dessert list with the addition of popsicles and snow cones courtesy of executive pastry chef Eric Estrella.
