A Season of Luxury Tastes
Nowadays, snowflakes aren’t the only white things falling. ’Tis the season for truffles, most notably those ever so opulent white truffles, raining down upon dishes to substantially up the ante on autumnal luxury. The Italian gems have found their way onto a few menus and specials around Chicago.
In the case of Old Town Pour House, even the most decadent of ingredients can come in the form of a bar snack. The food menu takes mercy on our wallets with a couple new casual truffled specials this season, courtesy of chef Paul Katz. Thanks to his truffle popcorn and truffle mac ’n’ cheese, diners can enjoy classic American bar bites with palpable panache.
Between bouts at downtown stores on Black Friday, Tre Soldi has the perfect pick-me-up. The Roman trattoria is peddling a one-day-only white truffle pizza special to help ameliorate the Black Friday retail hell. The white pizza, a nice contrast to the black day, contains a healthy smattering of shaved white truffles fresh from Italy, sure to soothe your tired soul after hustling from store to store nearby.
Truffles and burgers aren’t necessarily peanut butter and jelly when it comes to familiar food combos. But this season, DMK Burger Bar is elevating its ground beef arsenal with a few new luxury additions, each one available for a one-week run in December. The second of the trifecta, available the second week of December, is the truffle crisp burger made with grass-fed beef, La Quercia prosciutto, truffle butter, and Parmesan crisp on brioche. Gluttony has never tasted so gourmet.
And if one burger, one serving of mac ’n’ cheese, and one pizza don’t cut it, how about a whole truffle menu? Davanti Enoteca satisfies such high-strung needs with its new “Every Day We’re Trufflin’ Menu,” available through November 30. Chef Jaysen Euler has whipped up a few truffle specials at all three Chicagoland locations, including wild mushroom ragu with winter black truffles, mascarpone polenta, and poached farm egg; and thick-cut spaghetti with white truffles, Parma butter, chives, and Grana Padano. Diners can also opt to add five grams of freshly shaved truffles to any dish if they please.
