Restaurants Shake Up the Shamrock Shake

Shamrock Shakes are to March as pumpkin spice lattes are to all of autumn. People await those neon-green dessert drinks with the fervor of a leprechaun stalking a pot of gold. Here are some examples of St. Patrick’s Day-inspired drinks that shake up the Shamrock game.

The Shammy Shake at DMK Burger Bar is beginning to develop the type of cult renown associated with the Shamrock Shake that inspired it. It’s made with mint chocolate chip ice cream, milk, malt, Lucky Charms cereal, and a crispy mint leaf garnish. The DMK restaurant group is also offering Lucky Charms-themed specials at each of their restaurants beginning March 10. Diners who “collect” all of the specials and mark them on their Magically DMKlicious card will receive over one pound of only marshmallows Lucky Charms and a T-shirt.

There’s not one, but two special Irish-inspired shakes on hand at M Burger this month. The first is the Grasshopper, made with crushed chocolate sandwich cookies, and the other is the Minty Leprechaun featuring crushed mint chocolates. Both are available all month long for your crunching and slurping pleasure.

Shake Shack is upping the ante on mint chocolate with the inclusion of Mast Brothers chocolate for their “custard of the week” around St. Patrick’s Day. On deck from March 16 through March 22, the Mast Brothers chocolate mint custard is far thicker and more textured than a typical shake, ideal fodder for a spoon and a hefty appetite.
