Chicago Gastro Conference Explores Food Industry
As a savvy diner, you want to know more about how restaurants operate sustainably and how to reduce hunger in the city. Restaurateurs, suppliers, researchers, and journalists will be gathering to broach those topics and others at the Chicago Gastro Conference, held Saturday, April 13 at the University of Chicago.
The conference is organized by a University of Chicago student organization called EnvisionDo, which encourages collaboration between Chicago innovators and University of Chicago students. At the food conference, there will be five talks or panels that cover topics like running a restaurant and how to cook with a sustainable focus. The panels will feature people like Blackbird’s Donna Madia, Jason Axt from The Plant (the vertical farm and food business incubator), Christine Cikowski from Sunday Dinner Club, Louis John Slagel from Slagel Family Farm, Bill Daley and Monica Eng from the Chicago Tribune, Iliana Regan from Elizabeth Restaurant, and many others. After the panels, there will be a networking session with desserts to mingle with the panelists and other attendees. The first panel kicks off at 11:30 am and the last ends at 4:50 pm.
