Winter Pig Roasts and Fish Fries at Allium
Nothing combats the winter chill quite like a rib-sticking all-you-can-eat pig roast or fish fry. Allium does winter comfort food right, doling out not one but two food sprees on a weekly basis from mid-January through the end of February.
Starting January 14 and running every Tuesday through February, Allium goes whole-hog with pig roasts. Unlike your typical pig roast, however, Allium’s version derives inspiration from Chicago neighborhoods, utilizing the pork to make a variety of ethnic-inclined creations. Shoulder meat is pulled and stuffed into tacos flecked with pickled onions, cilantro, and queso fresco; roasted loin meat adopts an Italian accent with creamy polenta, braised kale, and giardiniera; and the ham and shank skew Asian in kimchi broth with quail eggs. For dessert, there’s pineapple upside-down cake with toasted coconut-rum ice cream, providing a pleasant tropical splash of flavor in the dead of winter. The pig roasts are served at dinner only.
Once you’re done pigging out on Tuesdays, head back to Allium for all-you-can-eat fish fry Fridays beginning January 17. This good ol’ fashioned Midwestern repast includes beer-battered Wisconsin walleye, cole slaw, hush puppies, hand-cut fries, tartar sauce, house hot sauce, and winter citrus meringue pie for dessert. The fish fries are available at lunch and dinner.
