We All Scream for Gold-Dusted Sundaes!
Just because the calendar says summer is gone doesn’t mean we need to stow our ice cream cravings for another year. On the contrary, ice cream season rages on thanks to glamorous new concepts like Parlour at the Pavilion within The Langham, Chicago.
In step with the hotel’s traditional tea service at The Pavilion, this new adult ice cream concept serves to re-furbish childhood soda shoppe nostalgia with a medley of sundaes and floats. But unlike those soda shoppes of yore, the ambiance at the majestic Pavilion is quite a bit more grandiose, so you can feast like kings and queens on extravagant desserts.
The setting may be palatial, but the dining concept is timeworn and comforting. Executive pastry chef Scott Green pilots the new ice cream program, drawing inspiration from vintage ice cream parlors for his menu, which dovetails nicely with the retro-clad servers. Re-imagining some of his childhood favorites for the adult palate, Green is whipping up sundaes such as The Aviator (gin, creme de violette, Luxardo Maraschino, lemon sorbet, Burgundy cherry ice cream, violet ice cream, candied violet petals, Amarena cherries, candied lemon peel, and whipped cream), The Manhattan (cherry cola, bourbon, bourbon caramel ice cream, Burgundy cherry ice cream, toasted almonds, Amarena cherries, cherry sauce, and whipped cream), the Chicagoland (chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, chocolate ice cream, Garrett’s Caramel Popcorn, cheesecake bites, chocolate cake, hot fudge, salted caramel, whipped cream, and a cherry), and the Saturday Morning Cartoon (rocky road ice cream, Cocoa Puffs, Lucky Charms marshmallows, peanut butter Capn’ Crunch, Golden Grahams, chocolate milk, and whipped cream). For those who prefer their ice cream on par with penthouse rental prices, there’s the lavish Victoria sundae made with Tahitian vanilla ice cream, Guittard Complexite 70% chocolate ice cream, 24kt gold leaf, caramelized golden peanuts, 24kt gold dust, dark chocolate croquet, hand-crafted chocolate crown, Hennessy VSOP, hot fudge, salted caramel, butterscotch, and whipped cream, all served in a Wedgewood Crystal Bowl to take home and a bottle of 2003 Dom Perignon.
Non-alcoholic versions of these treats are also available.
