Share Your Soles for Dessert
Governor Quinn and Mayor Emanuel have named September 12 National Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Day, and September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This year, Bear Necessities is collecting lightly worn gym shoes to use for a public display on September 14 as an homage to the thousands affected by pediatric cancer. After the display, the shoes will be donated to non-profit organization Share Your Soles.
Where do you come in? By donating shoes and eating dessert. Now through September 1, each of Chicago’s Kimpton restaurants – Sable Kitchen & Bar, Atwood Restaurant, 312 Chicago, and South Water Kitchen – will be collecting shoes for donations. For each pair collected, diners will receive a voucher for a free dessert at any restaurant. And considering the gamut of desserts at these restaurants, that’s quite the incentive. To whet your appetite: German chocolate cake, key lime custard, and chocolate sandwiches made with salted caramel bread at South Water Kitchen; creamsicle Pavlova, pistachio and honey crisp, and white chocolate creameux at Sable Kitchen & Bar; tiramisu and profiteroles at 312 Chicago; and dark chocolate steamed cake, caramel salted cheesecake, and warm lemon cake at Atwood Restaurant.
