Play Hooky with Mid-day Meals
It feels good to take an extended lunch bread now and again, especially when the food is so disarmingly good that it renders your work efficiency moot by meal’s end. You work hard and you deserve a break. Make like Ferris Bueller for an afternoon and wile away the mid-afternoon at restaurants such as Little Market Brasserie, Found, and Hash House A Go Go, all of which offer special mid-day menu offerings for the hooky crowd.
Contemporary American comfort foods and crafty cocktails sound like a much better alternative than number-crunching and responsibilities. So make your way to Little Market Brasserie one of these afternoons for a little edible refuge. The mid-afternoon menu boasts chef Ryan Poli’s novel take on such familiar favorites as a double cheeseburger, deviled eggs, and pasta puttanesca. Wash it all down with some of the best cocktails in town, designed by Tippling Bros. The mid-afternoon menu is served daily from 3:30 pm until 5:00 pm.
Since Found is so darn difficult to get into later in the evening, a good bet would be to swing by between the hours of 11:00 am and 4:30 pm Fridays through Sundays, when you can enjoy chef Nicole Pederson’s cuisine hassle-free. Thoughtfully dubbed “flexitarian” fare, Pederson’s menu features dishes fit for any appetite, group size, and diet, with items such as a pickled beef heart salad, a kale salad with potatoes and creamy mustard dressing, and a smoked fish tartine with radishes and watercress.
In case you were too rushed for breakfast, take your time and head to Hash House A Go Go. The all-day breakfast spot traffics in what it calls “twisted farm food,” slinging dishes such as sage fried chicken and waffles, 12-inch flapjacks, and rib-sticking sandwiches. Because the work week goes by so much faster when it’s fueled by foot-long flapjacks.
