Forget about mathematics, science, and literature. School is a lot more engaging when the order of the day is wine. “Boarding School” takes on new meaning thanks to The Boarding House, where sommelier and owner (and former Check, Please! host) Alpana Singh is poised to host a series of wine classes for oenophile students.

The curriculum begins with a “How to Taste Wine” seminar on April 26, wherein students will learn the ins and outs of wine-tasting basics. Lessons for the day include education on how to utilize glassware, how to discuss wine and its various sensations, how to identify the grape and its origins, and how to pair wine with food. Six wines will be sampled, each one a different vintage and origin, with varying aromas and bodies.

Also on the docket are a few specifically themed classes. Entertaining with Wine teaches students about selecting wines for home parties and syncing wine with party-friendly foods; Wedding Wine Boot Camp is ideal for matrimonial affairs, focusing on ideal wedding-friendly wines; and Focus on France hones in on California wines as well as old-world French wines.
