Mother’s Day Brunch Bites

Mother’s Day marks the biggest brunch holiday of the year, a day for mimosas, pastries, omelettes, and motherly adoration. If you’re planning on fording the lines to access brunch on Mother’s Day, it better be worth it. Here are some surefire bets for brunch success this weekend.

For brunch with a seafood slant, Shaw’s Crab House is tops. The Chicago outpost of this perpetually popular seafood haunt is offering a special Sunday brunch buffet in honor of moms. Breakfast classics abound on the Grand Hot Buffet, adjoined by omelette and waffle stations, a surf and turf station, a cold seafood bar, and a sweets table.

The perfect combo of familiar American flavors and contemporary, rigorously seasonal flair makes for a dynamic Mother’s Day meal at Perennial Virant. Vie bread French toast with apple-cranberry compote, pistachio oat crumble, and cider sabayon; quiche with roasted mushrooms, Capriko cheese, mesclun greens, and grilled leek vinaigrette; and biscuits and gravy with chicken sausage and eggs are a sampling of the succulent fare coming out of acclaimed chef Paul Virant’s kitchen.

If you’re looking to wow mom on Mother’s Day, as you should be, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more wow-inducing setting than the opulent Palmer House Hilton. Situated inside the palatial Loop hotel is Lockwood Restaurant & Bar, a sleek restaurant that has “Mother’s Day” written all over it with special brunch dishes such as fresh asparagus soup, rosemary-, thyme-, and garlic-infused leg of lamb, and pan-seared Atlantic salmon with hollandaise.

And speaking of wowing, as long as mom isn’t afraid of heights, The Signature Room is sure to dazzle. The 95th floor restaurant is serving up a special Mother’s Day brunch as impressive as the view, with items such as honey-glazed ham, strawberry-basil French toast, pan-seared snapper, and free mimosas for moms.

Mom deserves a little pomp and circumstance. Whisk her away to Sixteen for a memorable brunch buffet like no other. This ritzy spread includes a raw bar, hand-carved prime rib, a la minute pancakes, and risotto, among others.

In addition to the regular brunch menu, Siena Tavern is featuring a special prix fixe brunch on Mother’s Day. The menu starts with Prosecco or rose, followed by roasted beet salad, lobster omelette, and dark chocolate tart.

The Bristol is always a solid option for brunch, but especially when holidays are involved and you want to make a memorable impact with mom. Because there’s no way she’ll forget about those raspberry-rose croissants, blue cheese-pecan scones, butter pecan whole-wheat pancakes, braised pork chilaquiles, and mushroom and arugula quiche.

Dining family-style on Mother’s Day is an easy way to tell mom you love her. Do so in style at Little Goat, where a family-style spread of small bites, salads, pies, meats, breads, and cocktails will be on deck for brunch.
