The Latest on Late Night Bites
Late night dining and drinking has been expanding throughout Chicago, with restaurants and bars rolling out new twilight options everywhere from River North to Andersonville. Check out the latest batch of late night bites in town.
Summer may be winding down, but the late night dining program is just heating up at Bucktown’s Izakaya Mita. The Japanese haunt has launched a new late night menu available Fridays and Saturdays until 1:00 am. The concise menu features midnight snacks like ingen goma ae (green beans in sweet black sesame), oshinko (Japanese pickles), chuka lidako (marinated baby octopus), kara-age (Japanese style fried chicken with soy-ginger marinade), and korroke (potato croquettes).
At River North’s newest dance club, Rec Room, the subterranean bar serves as a fun throwback to Americana basement parties with disco balls, a juke box, leather furniture, and most importantly, a refrigerator filled with cold pizza. At the stroke of midnight, the casual and boisterous bar opens their fridge, which is stocked with pizza, popsicles, and fried chicken from sister spot County BBQ.
The latest in late night dining comes via LKH Management, which is expanding to Andersonville with outposts of Replay and Elixir. Paul Dobroski serves as chef at both spots, a departure from the food-less original locations in Lakeview. While Replay will open for breakfast and brunch, Dobroski will extend the contemporary American dining options until late at night, which will make for a nice option alongside pinball games, vintage video games, and craft beers. Elixir will skew later as well, with a small plate dining program, bar snacks, and craft cocktails.
