Labor Day Eats
Summer’s ending is a hard pill to swallow, but it’s more digestible when Labor Day specials like sausages and pancakes are involved. In honor of Labor Day weekend and the unofficial summer finale, several restaurants around Chicago are sending the season out on a high note with some holiday dishes and drinks.
Bottlefork is featuring a bevy of draft beer specials and sausage platters brimming with housemade weisswurst, knockwurst, and bratwurst. The platters come adorned with beer mustard, pickled mustard seeds, pickled onions, fresh pretzel, and German potato salad. In addition, Bottlefork’s new seasonal sundae is on deck, made with bourbon peaches, blueberries, vanilla soft-serve, whipped cream, and pecans.
Since The Winchester is open and serving brunch on Labor Day, they figured they’d make the most of the holiday with an indulgent special. Updating the classic chicken and waffles formula, the restaurant will offer fried chicken and liege waffles with maple butter, and Burton’s Maplewood Farm maple syrup.
The One Off Hospitality gamut of restaurants sends summer off in style with brunch at Nico Osteria and Publican Quality Meats. Both will be doling out special brunch menus for the holiday, the former featuring items such as Nico Caesars with side-striped shrimp, olives, cherry tomatoes, and market lettuce; the Nico burger with lobster salad, avocado, pickled fresno chiles, and gem lettuce; and oven-baked pancakes with raspberries, pistachios, and fior di latte. Over at Publican Quality Meats, there’s duck hash with succotash, pickled shrimp salad, and a butcher’s breakfast with bacon, breakfast sausage, breakfast potatoes, country bread, and two eggs.
Before summer says farewell, Frontier is doing it justice by getting in one last patio barbecue. On August 31, the restaurant will host a patio BBQ from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Unlike your typical backyard bash, this one includes gator burgers along with housemade sausages, burgers, beers, and all the fixings.
Start your Labor Day on a leisurely note with a plate of comfort food at Mercadito Fish. The Gold Coast restaurant is offering unlimited pancake specials all day long, with optional toppings such as strawberries, Nutella, and chocolate chips.
