Grilled Cheese for a Good Cause
Grilled cheese has always been a food that makes people feel all warm and fuzzy, and now you can feel even better about it thanks to Little Market Brasserie’s new Melts for Meals series. Starting in September and running through early next year, the contemporary American restaurant invites guest chefs/grilled cheese gurus to create custom grilled cheese sandwiches for a good cause, with a portion of proceeds going towards Meals on Wheels Chicago. For one month at a time, a featured chef’s grilled cheese will be added to the menu, and every time you order it you’ll be helping fund home meal deliveries for Chicago seniors and people with disabilities. Grilled cheese just tastes better with a side of compassion.
The first grilled cheese cameo comes from Chandra Ram, editor-in-chief of Plate Magazine and President of Meals on Wheels Chicago. For her grilled cheese, Ram skews Southern, tugging on heartstrings via pimento cheese, bacon, tomato, and arugula. The Southern-style sandwich debuts September 1 and will be available the entire month of September.
In the months to come, new grilled cheese sandwiches will make their way to Little Market’s menu, all for the same good cause. Sepia’s Andrew Zimmerman takes the helm in October, followed by Cory Morris of Mercat a la Planxa in November, Mark Steuer from Carriage House and The Bedford in December, Chris Pandel of The Bristol and Balena in January, and finally, John Manion of La Sirena Clandestina in February. Stay tuned for all the gooey details on the grilled cheeses to come.
