Fat Tuesday
Mardi Gras is here, and while we may not be in New Orleans, Chicago knows how to let the good times roll, especially where dining is involved.
Bub City is making Fat Tuesday even fatter by ballooning the holiday over the span of a few days. From February 12 through February 17, the barstaurant will feature frozen Hurricanes and Sazeracs on special, along with New Orleans-style gumbo laden with crawfish, oysters, and house-smoked andouille. There’s also Mardi Gras karaoke available, because it wouldn’t be Mardi Gras without a little music.
New Orleans-style food and beverages take the spotlight at adjacent sister spots Dusek’s Board and Beer and Punch House on February 17. Leaving no boisterous stone left unturned, there will be food, there will be cocktails, and there will be beer. Specials for the evening include andouille sausage, crab beignets, catfish étouffée, and crawfish boils with a side of North Coast Pranqster ales at Dusek’s. Drink specials upstairs also include Sazeracs, Vieux Carres, and French 75s, while subterranean Punch House peddles drink specials like Hurricane Punch, Absinthe Frappes, and Bourbon Street Special Anti-Tank Explosive Punch with rum, brandy, lime, pineapple, Blue Curacao, and escorial.
Naturally, when celebrating one of the South’s preeminent festivals, you’d be wise to visit The Southern. The Wicker Park bar and restaurant does New Orleans right with a Fat Tuesday fete that features an Abita beer tap takeover, Mardi Gras cocktails, an all-you-can-eat crawfish boil, and live music
DMK Burger Bar puts the “fat” in Fat Tuesday with a particularly fatty menu special for the holiday. The Mardi Gras Burger features two beef patties cooked in Cajun spices with Swiss cheese, Creole tomato ketchup, arugula, red onion, and mustard on a paczki bun, aka a doughnut.
