Chefs Embrace Childhood Nostalgia at Chefs’ Playground

Terzo Piano

Culinary skill and whimsy collide at the 3rd annual Chefs’ Playground event at Terzo Piano. Taking place June 4 in conjunction with Bon Appetit Management Company’s Fedele Bauccio, the event will feature chef/owner Tony Mantuano joined by a who’s-who of culinary talent, each cooking up some childhood nostalgia. The cherry on the altruistic sundae is that the event serves to raise funds for the Academy for Global Citizenship, a public charter school on the city’s southwest side that utilizes innovative, engaging techniques to curate well-rounded student wellness.

Aptly, an event geared towards a school would have a childhood emphasis. Thereby, all chefs are creating dishes inspired by school time lore.

Participating chefs and mixologists on deck this year will likely up the ante on the types of food you probably remember eating in your cafeteria. Joining Mantuano at Terzo Piano is Johnny Anderes (The Kitchen), Rachel Dow (The Betty), John Hogan (River Roast), Bill Kim (bellyQ), Jimmy Bannos Jr. (The Purple Pig), Meg Galus (BOKA), Rick Ortiz (Antique Taco), Chris Pandel (The Bristol), Giuseppe Tentori (GT Fish & Oyster), and more.

During VIP hour, Sarah Grueneberg will provide an early taste of what’s to come from her forthcoming restaurant, Monteverde, while Miami-based The Broken Shaker creates cocktails in anticipation of their impending opening in Chicago.
