The Bread Bakers Guild of America Takes You Inside Chicago Bakeshops
Bread-lovers will soon have an opportunity to get up close and personal with some of Chicago’s most beloved bakeshops, as The Bread Bakers Guild of America’s 5th Annual Bakery Open House takes place June 27. The event, part of the Guild’s 2015 event series dubbed “Revival: What’s Old Is New,” features 40 bakeries across the country, including Chicago’s Floriole Cafe & Bakery and Publican Quality Bread.
The community-oriented series serves as a means of unifying people and their local bakeries while simultaneously celebrating artisanal bread. This year’s “Revival” theme strives to shape and strengthen the skills and craft throughout the baking community.
Floriole’s open house takes place from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm, wherein attendees will have the opportunity to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Lincoln Park keystone. Tours are given at 2:30 pm and 3:30 pm, and there will also be ongoing baking demonstrations and bread tastings throughout the open house.
Another one of Chicago’s well-known bread bakeries, Publican Quality Bread, is participating in the festivities with an open house from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. During this time, guests will be able to tour the bakery, sample some of head baker Greg Wade’s wares, witness baking demonstrations, and learn more about heritage grains.
