Game Day Grub for Gourmands
Now that football season is underway, you’re probably hungry. Sure there are all the usual tailgating suspects, but this year you’ve got a myriad of new dining options, thanks to a slew of restaurants getting in on the action. From tailgate provisions to game day specials, here are some of the hottest tickets around town this season.
Think outside the pickup truck for your tailgating needs with the help of Grange Hall Burger Bar. The West Loop burger bastion is offering a bevy of tailgating provisions this season, featuring all the hearty essentials done up in style. Get your fill of potato salad, baked beans, cole slaw, mac & cheese, and of course all the requisites for burgers. Spoons, tongs, utensils, napkins, and plates are included too. The tailgate wares are available during every Bears home game and can be ordered by contacting [email protected] or (312) 455-9100.
For something a little more collegiate, Found Kitchen and Social House is rolling out the red carpet for Northwestern Wildcats fans. Not only is there a TV at the bar, surrounded by gourmet football-friendly plates such as twice-fried chicken wings and lamb meatballs, but the restaurant offers complimentary bus rides to and fro the stadium during home games. Busses depart from Found 45 minutes prior to kickoff and return 30 minutes after the game. Whether your team wins or loses, it would behoove you to return to Found at game’s end and indulge in more of Nicole Pederson’s unique American cuisine.
In case you’re skipping the tailgate entirely and saving your appetite for the stadium, Soldier Field upped their burger cred this year with the addition of DMK Burger Bar. The Lakeview-based meat Mecca is the latest addition to the stadium’s food roster, giving attendees a decidedly more upscale alternative to game day grub. All the DMK burger favorites are on hand, as well as special Bears-themed burgers to be featured throughout the season. Don’t forget about the fries and locally sourced craft beers.
New Orleans expats have a new sanctuary this season in Frontier. With the help of executive chef and New Orleans native Brian Jupiter, the game-centric bar is tuning in all year long to New Orleans Saints games and offering po’boy and gumbo specials. Weekly viewing parties also feature New Orleans bounce music and line music.
